New York families can begin with local assessment and treatment resources, then compare intervention or practical recovery support for the actual place where the person lives. A New York City assignment and continuing care elsewhere in the state need different arrangements.
Find an appropriate New York starting point
The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports, OASAS, provides information on treatment options and ways to find services. Its resources describe outpatient, inpatient and residential services as well as support for families. Use the official information alongside a discussion with a qualified professional; private intervention is not the only route into care.
Match the professional to the location
Clarify whether the work will take place in New York City, on Long Island, in Westchester, the Hudson Valley, the Capital Region, or elsewhere in the state. Ask the provider to name the professional, their actual base, attendance dates, travel charges and the people who will remain involved after the assignment.
Intervention, companions and concierge services
An intervention proposal should explain family preparation, clinical input, the planned conversation, alternatives and follow-up. A sober-companion agreement should specify contact hours, supervision, breaks, replacement cover and clinical boundaries. A recovery concierge should identify coordination tasks rather than claiming to provide every clinical service.
Moving between states or residences
For someone dividing time between New York and another state, confirm the clinical and practical arrangements for each location. Ask the relevant professionals about authorization to provide care where the person will be. Do not assume a New York-based service can supply clinical treatment everywhere.
Considering residential care abroad
THE BALANCE in Mallorca or Zurich and COGNIFUL in Mallorca are the only residential programs profiled here. They are related international options, not New York facilities or locally staffed intervention services. Admission, travel suitability and follow-up in New York require separate confirmation.
Local and urgent resources
Use 911 for immediate danger or a medical emergency and call or text 988 for crisis support. For planned care, consult the official state resources below. Private Intervention does not operate a New York office or emergency team.
